At Focus Foundation, we believe that taking meaningful climate action requires a justice-centered approach. As part of the Focus Nature-Friendly Leaders Program, we hosted the Delve into Climate Action education module to examine the complex intersections of climate change, inequality, and collective responsibility — with a specific focus on the eco-justice landscape in Turkey.

Held at our foundation headquarters, this session welcomed guest speaker Sinan Erensü from Mekanda Adalet Derneği, who guided our students through key issues such as energy poverty and heatwaves in the context of urban inequality and social vulnerability.
Rather than assuming a universal experience of the climate crisis, the session asked our students to confront an essential reality: not everyone is affected equally. Environmental risks and climate impacts are deeply shaped by economic, geographic, and political disparities. Some communities carry the burden far more than others — often while contributing the least to the root causes.

Through case studies, local research, and interactive dialogue, our students explored how eco-justice offers a lens to understand these injustices and seek systemic solutions. Discussions focused on the role of local governance, inclusive climate policy, and bottom-up movements that challenge existing power structures and build resilience from the ground up.

At Focus Foundation, we are committed to nurturing leaders who are not only informed and aware, but also courageous and compassionate. Delve into Climate Action empowered our students to engage with climate change not just as an environmental issue, but as a question of fairness, representation, and human dignity — and to reflect on their own roles in shaping a more equitable and sustainable future.
